Journeyman Diesel Technician Wanted
Position Summary
Able to diagnose, overhaul, adjust & repair all series of motor truck and trailer equipment including but not limited to the following:
Engines – Gas & Diesel
Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
Transmissions – Manual & Automatic
Clutches
Differentials/Power Dividers
PTO Systems
Starters/Alternators
Engine Electronics – Gas & Diesel
Power Steering Systems & Steering Gearbox - Manual & Power
Major Responsibilities
Demonstrate proficiency in the repair & diagnosis of:
Engines – Gas & Diesel
Power train to include differentials
Transmissions – Manual & Automatic
Clutches
Drive Shafts
PTO’s & wheel ends
Electrical Systems – including starters & alternators, HVAC, Steering, Refrigeration
Electronics – include ECM’s, ECU’s, sensors, etc.
Engine bolt on items – turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system, etc.
Brake Systems – ABS, Suspension (spring & air)
Able to:
- Identify & determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
- Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
- Safety Road Test vehicles when needed to diagnose malfunctions or ensure they run properly
- Perform duties with little or no supervision in a timely & efficient manner
- Maintain work area appearance
- Use hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pressure gauges
- Use power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, jacks & hoists
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment & machinery
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings to ensure they are in proper operating condition
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws and reassemble equipment
- Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts & pressure gauges
- Examine & adjust protective guards, loose bolts and specified safety devices.
- Inspect & verify dimensions & clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
- Specialize in repairing & maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injections systems
- Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Education & Experience:
- 6 years practical experience with tractor/trailer maintenance required
- Vocational/Technical or certification preferred
- Specialized training & experience in the overhaul of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials) and OEM training courses required.
- ASE certification and 608/609 certifications preferred
- Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, shop machines & power tools required.
- Current CDL license with air brake certification required
- Basic computer skills – includes Microsoft Work, Excel, Outlook required
- Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment is required
- Willingness to travel when necessary, work the required schedule & specific location required
- Pre-Employment drug screening required
- Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs / 23 kg
- Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Experience and certification in Cummins 2010 emission systems preferred.
